The key to great group shots is in getting different levels.
When posing groups for fashion photography I like to try to get different levels. To achieve this in a recent fashion photoshoot that I did, I used a stool. Having some models sit and some stand creates different levels in the image. I also tried to show connection between the models while still making each model stand out on their own. That is why you will see that I have the men lean into the women and put their leg on the stool behind them. It makes the group feel more cohesive and connected.
